Fanny xúi chồng tống khứ bà mẹ kế cùng các em gái ra khỏi ngôi nhà thân yêu của họ. Những ngày cuối cùng ở điền trang Norland, họ có dịp làm quen với Edward Ferrars (Hugh Grant), em trai của bà chị dâu Fanny, một chàng trai đôn hậu và dễ mến.
